Klondike and Snow are almost 5 and a half years old. Klondike currently weighs 940 pounds and is approximately 9 feet tall. Snow weighs 510 pounds and is approximately 7 feet tall.
Klondike and Snow's daily diet includes red meat, Polar Bear biscuits, kidney suet, herring, capelin, and any trout they may catch in their habitat. They also receive a variety of fruits, vegetables, sweets, and cereals as occasional treats and environmental enrichment.
As Klondike and Snow are growing into young adults, they have become less dependent on each other and, similar to polar bears not in the care of man, are spending more time away from one another. Klondike and Snow have also been introduced to our adult pair of polar bears and they are all getting along nicely.
All of our polar bears, including Klondike and Snow, are being trained a number of husbandry behaviors. They include once a week weighing, body line ups, mouth and teeth exams, stand up, and paw presentation. These husbandry behaviors allow us to perform routine examinations our polar bears and ensure their good health.
